A historian and witch named Diana Bishop, who has long avoided her magical heritage, uncovers a long-lost enchanted manuscript in Oxford's Bodleian Library, drawing the attention of witches, daemons, and vampires. Among them is the vampire scientist Matthew Clairmont, to whom she finds herself inexplicably drawn. As they investigate the manuscript's secrets, their growing bond crosses an ancient boundary between their kinds and threatens a fragile peace.
