In this second entry of the All Souls series, witch Diana Bishop and vampire Matthew Clairmont travel back in time to Elizabethan London in 1590, seeking safety and answers. Matthew resumes his former life as a poet and spy serving Queen Elizabeth, rejoining a circle of radical thinkers known as the School of Night. Together the pair search Tudor London for an elusive alchemical manuscript and for a witch who can help Diana master her powers, all while tensions among witches, vampires, daemons, and humans grow more dangerous.
