Set in San Francisco, this novella follows the DarkRiver leopard changeling pack as they defend their claimed territory against a violent gang encroaching on the city. Emmett, a trained leopard soldier, intervenes when the gang targets a human woman named Ria. As the two are drawn together, Ria proves to be a strong-willed match for the possessive changeling. The story is a novella positioned within the Psy-Changeling series timeline, following the short story 'Seedlings' and preceding 'Slave to Sensation.'
