At St. Vladimir's Academy, a hidden boarding school, vampires study magic while half-human teens train as their protectors. Rose Hathaway, a Dhampir, serves as bodyguard to her best friend Lissa, a Moroi vampire princess. After a period on the run, the two are brought back to the academy, where they navigate a harsh social hierarchy, forbidden romance, and secretive rituals, all while facing the threat posed by the dangerous Strigoi vampires.
