In this second installment of The Shepherd King series, Elspeth and Ravyn have collected most of the twelve Providence Cards but must still locate the final and most crucial one, the Twin Alders. To find it before the Solstice and cure their kingdom of the dark magic afflicting it, they must travel beyond a perilous, mist-shrouded forest. Their guide is the Nightmare, a monstrous presence that shares Elspeth's mind and grows increasingly unwilling to remain a passenger.
