Snow Like Ashes

Sixteen years after the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its people enslaved, a small group of survivors works to reclaim their lost magic and restore their kingdom. Meira, orphaned during the fall and raised as a refugee by the Winterians' general, trains as a warrior and longs to aid her people's cause. When the location of an ancient locket capable of restoring Winter's magic is discovered, Meira sets out to retrieve it, only to be drawn into dangerous magic and political intrigue that forces her to confront the truth about her own destiny.
