A human woman is captured by slavers and sold at auction, ending up in the possession of orcs and their scarred king, Gorvor, who declares her his mate. Set in a remote orc kingdom, the story follows her resistance to and gradual reconsideration of her captivity as she uncovers secrets the orcs are keeping and questions whether she wants to return to the human world. It is the first book in a series of standalone romances, each concluding with a happily-ever-after.
