From Blood and Ash

In a kingdom overseen by the gods, a young woman known as the Maiden lives a solitary, restricted life as she awaits a ceremony called the Ascension. Forbidden from being touched, seen, or spoken to freely, she would rather fight the evils that destroyed her family than fulfill the duty imposed on her. When a golden-eyed guard named Hawke is assigned to protect her and ensure her Ascension, she finds her convictions and desires increasingly at odds with her obligations. Meanwhile, a fallen kingdom rises again, seeking vengeance, and the boundaries between what is forbidden and what is right begin to blur.
