Set in August 1955, this dark gothic historical romance follows Darcy O'Sullivan, an orphaned English teacher from Boston, who learns that the biological father she never knew has died and named her in his will. To claim her inheritance, she must travel to the small coastal town of Fairydale for his funeral. Once there, she encounters unsettling residents, strange rumors, and mysterious deaths. She becomes drawn to the brooding Caleb Hale of the notorious Hale family, while at night her dreams are haunted by Amon d'Artan, a nobleman from two centuries past. As she is caught in a web of secrets, Darcy must confront an ancient threat to the town and everything she cares about. The book blends horror, paranormal, and fantasy elements.
