A twenty-year-old human woman named Emelin is caught using forbidden magic by a feared fae assassin known as the Silent Death. Rather than killing her, he carries her into the Fae Isles and the Crimson Court, where the Mother of faekind rules over fae and humans. The assassin has his own hidden agenda and needs Emelin's magic to pursue it, offering a chance to free humanity in exchange for her cooperation. As the two work together, Emelin must weigh whether she can trust a fae with a violent reputation, and whether she can trust her own growing feelings.
