City of Ashes

In this second installment of a young-adult urban fantasy series, Clary Fray navigates life as a newly discovered Shadowhunter while her mother lies in a magically induced coma. As she grows closer to her best friend Simon and struggles with her complicated feelings toward her newfound brother Jace, a string of murders targeting Downworlder children draws suspicion. The theft of the Soul-Sword brings an Inquisitor to New York, whose scrutiny falls on Jace, all while Clary seeks to confront the rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is also her father.
