Celeste has spent four years distancing herself from angelic society, pursuing human ambitions in Paris and New York while refusing to complete her wings. The death of the woman who took her in draws the angels back into her life, including Seraph Asher, an archangel she holds responsible for an earlier loss. Asher pressures her to finish her wings and ultimately reveals a secret about a departed loved one's soul to persuade her.
