The second entry in the Black Hat Bureau series follows Rue, a witch, as she repairs the damage left behind by a black witch who caused chaos in Hollis Apothecary and harmed two people close to her. While tending to matters at home, she is called upon by Clay and Asa, who need her assistance tracking a dangerous creature preying on residents of a small Tennessee town. Honoring an agreement with the Bureau's director, Rue takes on the case, which draws her further into uncovering corruption within the Black Hat Bureau. The story blends paranormal mystery with elements of magic involving witches, demons, and fae.
