Kell is one of the last magicians able to travel between parallel versions of London — Red, Grey, White, and the lost Black. Raised in Red London, he officially serves the Maresh empire as an ambassador between worlds, but he also smuggles artifacts between them, a dangerous habit that lands him in trouble. After an exchange goes wrong, he flees to Grey London and crosses paths with Delilah Bard, a thief with grand ambitions who robs him, then saves him, then insists he take her along on an adventure. Together they face perilous magic and treachery across the worlds.
